Being a human resource manager in my company certainly provides me with a good laugh once in a while. When an advertisement is published for a job vacancy, you will tend to receive all kinds of applications, whether they qualify for the position or not. Obviously, these job seekers are desperately looking for a paycheck and not a job. How can you perform the responsibilities of the position if you do not have the relevant qualifications or experience? I do not think that a person without a degree will be incapable of handling certain executive positions, but honesty will be the best policy that they need to have with themselves. You can buy any number of fake degrees but make sure that it reflects realistically on your capabilities. Being over-ambitious with the fake degrees will only tell on you in the end and jeopardize your career and reputation.
On the other hand, there are some who seemed to have it all. Their credentials and experience are so impressive that the management will not think twice to hire. But how do we know that the resume is real. Of course, we do ask for references.
I still remember this marketing manager that management decided to hire despite my protest. His resume described a high-flyer with a double-degree from two foreign universities plus a list of work responsibilities that outshines my 20 years’ experience. I’m not being jealous but I smelled 2 fake degrees. Anyway, since management was adamant about their decision, I adopted a wait-and-see attitude. He was full of ideas to re-strategize our marketing approach plus re-positioning our sales targets. But he had poor action planning and his communication was deplorable. How can you have studied in a university in Minnesota, USA and still cannot speak fluent English? Everything is conducted in a local dialect. After paying him a lucrative paycheck for six months we had to let him go and I finally had the honor to tell the management I told you so!’
My son will be graduating soon from the university and I am worried that he will ultimately have to compete with people like this marketing manager. It is simply a waste of time for both the genuine job aspirants and the employers.
Let’s face it! You can’t be a doctor without having studied for it. Neither can you be an engineer without being educated in that field. However, it is not impossible to use fake degrees to be an accountant when you have had the experience of working with one. You could also choose to be a marketing manager so long as you have all the necessary attributes and knowledge that can contribute to the company’s business development. Be rational and plan well when you intend to buy any fake degrees and you may be climbing up the corporate ladder in no time.
